Recorded on a particularly warm, windy, and wet winter day in and around the southern Driftless Area in Eastern Iowa. The Driftless is a unique environment within the borders of Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois full of distinctive terrain as a result of escaping glacial movement in the most recent glacial period (or "ice age").

The recordings were made at Eden Valley County Refuge and Maquoketa Caves State Park leaving the bats undisturbed during hibernation.

Equipment: Zoom H4n and a Soundman OKM II binaural microphone.
